When you come down to it, it’s very simple. If you want a new job you need to learn new skills. Too often I’ve heard people say, “Oh, I’m no good with computers, I never seem to get them to do what I want.” And so they miss opportunity after opportunity simply because when things got a bit hard they threw in the towel.
This failure to learn basic computer skills can get you pushed to the back of the line when new opportunities arise. I was once made manager of all things computer when the company I worked for purchased a new software program for several thousand dollars and the person they hired to run it quit over a money dispute. I had won a computer in a novel writing contest and was getting the ‘feel’ of it by learning Microsoft’s early word program, and by getting helpful input from a friend of mine who worked in a bank’s computer department
So I stepped up and said I could do it.
They were ecstatic! Got a big raise and the love of my employers. I took the manual home over the weekend and took notes to ask the software company’s help department to better explain the things that were a bit out of my grasp.
It was rough but within a few weeks I had a good handle on what I was doing and what I didn’t know was being fielded by the customer service person over at the software company. (Just so happened our package included unlimited technical support for the first 30 days.) By the time the month was up I was a pro.
My point is this: You can learn anything! You can learn to do anything. I taught myself how to play eight different musical instruments. It was hard as hell the first few times, but once I knew how much effort would be necessary, I just buckled down and plowed ahead. Remember, nothing is beyond your grasp if you decide you’re going to keep at it until you become successful.
There is a point to all this. The world of the future will be almost entirely dependent on computers in one form or another. The jobs that pay the best will be those that require some sort of coding.
Which means YOU HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO TYPE.
And don’t think you can get away with that hunt & peck method. Way, WAY too slow for the fast paced tech companies looking to hire. But The Underground College is here to help.
Here is a link to FREE trial: Learn How to Type program.
If you practice every day, by the time the trial is up you should quite proficient. If that is the case you should buy the software, it’s only fair. Plus you just attained a skill that has doubled your value in the marketplace.
